Mind is Fighting With the Senses: Manah Shashthaani Indriyaani Prakriti Sthaani Karshati

On a sacred Ekadashi day, a chance reunion with someone met earlier turned into a profound reminder of the inner battle we all face — the constant tug-of-war between the mind and the senses. What started as a casual recognition became an invitation to bring real peace into one’s own life and the lives of loved ones.

“We’ve met earlier I think,” he said with a smile of recognition.

“Oh really, thanks for your remembrance! So do you have Bhagavad Gita?”

“Yes… I do have Bhagavad Gita,” he replied.

“Anyone to whom you wish to gift this book?” I suggested.

“I can’t remember anyone…”

“Anybody about whom you feel more compassionate, for them to attain the real peace of mind please?”

“I told that I know nobody to whom I can give Bhagavad Gita”

“I see… So you think that everybody around you is peaceful and happy!”, I asked

“It depends on their mind — to be peaceful or not,” he answered.

“But that very mind is flickering. Very few people can have control over it. We are fighting here — the mind is fighting here with the senses — Manah Shashthaani Indriyaani Prakriti Sthaani Karshati (Bhagavad Gita Chapter 15, Verse 7). So where there is fight, there is no space for peace.”

“But why are you explaining all this to me?” he asked.

“Because you have been awarded this human form of life and you are qualified to be told all this. There are very much lessons to be learnt in this short span of temporary human life. So before that time expires, fill yourself and your loved ones’ minds with the real knowledge to attain the real peace. Read the Gita and gift it to your loved ones. Please. Once. Today is Ekadashi. Please do this greatest deed on this holy day.”

“My grandma once told me that I was born on the day of Ekadashi…” he added.

“That’s great! So make your birth successful by accepting Bhagavad Gita on this day of Ekadashi.”

“Let’s see to whom I can give then…” he replied with a cheerful smile.

“Also try to learn flute for playing it in your me-time as its voice pleases Murlidhar Lord Krishna”, I added

All glories to this sincere soul for accepting the Bhagavad Gita on this auspicious day of Ekadashi!

All glories to Srila Prabhupada, who gave us the clear vision to see the mind’s battle and the perfect weapon — the Gita — to win it.

This Ekadashi encounter is a gentle yet powerful wake-up call for every one of us. The mind is constantly at war with the senses, pulling us in different directions and robbing us of inner peace. As Lord Krishna explains in Bhagavad Gita 15.7, the living entity in the material world is like a fragmental part struggling in the grip of material nature. Where there is this inner fight, true peace cannot remain.

The solution is simple yet profound: Fill the mind with Lord Krishna’s words. Read the Gita daily. Share it with loved ones. Turn even one verse into a topic of discussion. When the mind is engaged in Krishna consciousness, the senses become servants instead of masters, and real peace — the peace that surpasses all material conditions — begins to dawn.

The fact that this gentleman was born on Ekadashi made the moment even more auspicious. Lord Krishna arranged the perfect day for him to accept the Gita and become an instrument in spreading its mercy. Ekadashi is not just a day of fasting — it is a day when the gates of mercy open wide. Doing even one pure devotional act on this day carries immense spiritual potency.

To every reader observing or remembering Ekadashi: Use this holy day (or the spirit of it) to do something concrete for Lord Krishna. Read a chapter. Gift a Gita. Share a verse with someone you care about. Turn the mind’s battlefield into a playground of bhakti.

Have you ever felt the mind’s constant fight with the senses? Or experienced how reading and sharing the Gita brings unexpected peace? Share your thoughts below — your reflection may help someone else move from inner conflict to inner calm.

More sacred Ekadashi and everyday awakenings coming soon, all building toward a book filled with these merciful reminders from Lord Krishna. On this holy day or any day — let the Gita win the battle of the mind.
